About

Tour overview

See two completely different sides of the Riviera Maya in a single day: the grandeur of the ancient Maya world and the mystery of the underworld below it. This 100% private tour pairs the iconic clifftop ruins of Tulum, perched above the Caribbean, with a snorkeling adventure in Cenote Sac Actun — the gateway to one of the longest and most spectacular underground rivers on Earth.

Because the service is exclusively yours, we pick you up right at your hotel or meeting point and head straight there — no stops to collect other travelers. That means you reach Tulum ahead of the big tour buses (better light, cooler temperatures, fewer crowds) and explore the cenote at your own pace. You set the rhythm; we handle everything else.

Tulum: the walled city above the turquoise sea

Your day starts in Tulum, the only Maya settlement built atop a cliff facing the open sea. With a certified, English-speaking guide, you'll walk the ancient walled city and discover why it was a strategic trading port for the Maya civilization.

  • Archaeological treasures: Visit El Castillo and the Temple of the Frescoes, and learn how the city walls and clifftop position made it a natural fortress.
  • Maya science and mysticism: Hear how precisely the Maya aligned these buildings with the cosmos, and what that tells us about their astronomy.
  • Postcard views: Enjoy free time to photograph the ruins against the turquoise Caribbean — one of the most famous views in all of Mexico.

Cenote Sac Actun: descend into the world's most famous underground river

Just minutes from Tulum lies Sac Actun, which means “white cave” in the Maya language. It's the entry point to a colossal flooded cave system with hundreds of mapped miles of passages — linked in 2018 to the Dos Ojos system — and ranks among the longest underground rivers on the planet. This is a world that took millions of years to form, and it still holds fossils of prehistoric animals and human remains more than 12,000 years old.

  • Snorkeling the underworld: Fitted with a life vest and snorkel gear, you'll glide through crystal-clear water alongside an expert guide, floating past stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient columns.
  • A show of light and silence: Shafts of natural light filter down from above, lighting the chambers with unforgettable turquoise reflections.
  • Always crystal clear: Because this is underground freshwater, the cenote stays clear year-round — no waves, and completely free of sargassum seaweed.

A Mexican lunch to recharge

After the adventure, we'll stop for a traditional Mexican lunch at a local restaurant in the area — authentic regional flavors to wind down the day, far from the generic tourist buffets.

What makes this tour different?

  • Two experiences, one day: Maya culture and a natural underworld combined — no need to choose between ruins or cenote.
  • VIP logistics, zero waiting: We go straight from your door to the adventure, skipping the hours other tours waste picking up passengers at hotel after hotel.
  • Two specialist guides: A certified Maya-culture guide at Tulum, plus a cenote expert who looks after your safety inside Sac Actun.
  • Food and drinks included: A Mexican lunch and an onboard cooler with beer, soft drinks, and water. Unlike many options out there, lunch isn't an add-on here.
  • At your own pace: Want more time for photos on the cliff or a longer swim in the cenote? The itinerary bends to you.

A typical day

  • 7:00 - 8:30 AM — Pickup at your hotel or meeting point (depending on location).
  • Around 9:00 AM — Guided visit to the Tulum ruins, before the big crowds arrive.
  • Around 11:30 AM — Snorkeling and exploring Cenote Sac Actun with an expert guide.
  • Around 1:30 PM — Traditional Mexican lunch.
  • 3:00 - 4:00 PM — Direct return to your hotel or meeting point.

Note: times are approximate. Since this is a private tour, the schedule flexes around your group.

What to bring

  • Clothing: Swimsuit worn underneath, a towel, and a dry change of clothes.

Important information to know

  • Health and safety: For safety reasons, the cenote activity is not recommended for pregnant women, guests with heart conditions or health issues that limit moderate physical effort, or anyone with severe claustrophobia. Basic swimming ability is recommended (a life vest is required at all times).

  • Kids policy: Family-friendly. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult in the water at all times.
