About

Tour Overview

The Tulum Xtreme Tour (also searched as Tulum Extreme) is a full-day excursion that packs four experiences into one trip: a guided tour of the Tulum Mayan ruins, a 7-zipline course over the jungle canopy, a 65-ft (20 m) rappel, and a swim in an underground cenote surrounded by stalactites, with a regional lunch buffet included. We pick you up at your hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya and drop you off at the end of the day, with gear, admission and lunch all taken care of.

It’s the perfect pick if you only have one day for Tulum and don’t want to choose between culture and adrenaline: history overlooking the Caribbean in the morning, then the jungle from above and the crystal-clear water of an underground river.

Tulum Ruins: The Last Maya City on the Caribbean

Your day starts at the Tulum archaeological site, one of the few Maya cities still inhabited when Europeans arrived: Spanish explorer Juan de Grijalva’s expedition spotted it from the sea in 1518. A certified bilingual guide will explain how this Postclassic city worked and what made its cliff-top location so special.

  • Temples with a story (approx. 45 min): see El Castillo, the Temple of the Descending God, with its mysterious upside-down figure, and the Temple of the Frescoes, which still shows traces of its original murals.

  • Time for photos (approx. 45 min): after the guided walk, you’ll have free time to explore on your own and snap the ruins against the turquoise Caribbean.

  • Pro tip: there’s very little shade on site, so a hat, sunglasses and water make a big difference.

Times are approximate and may vary depending on the day’s operation.

7-Zipline Course Over the Maya Jungle

At the adventure park, our team will fit you with a PETZL harness, helmet and gloves and give you a quick safety briefing before you climb to the first platform. From there, you’ll fly through a circuit of seven ziplines crossing the treetops at 59 to 109 ft (18–30 m) high, on cables up to 1,234 ft (376 m) long.

  • Five ways to fly: Hamaca (hammock), Papantla, Coatí, Pájaro Toh and Regular. Your guide will walk you through each style on the platform so you can choose how you want to ride.

  • No experience needed: first-timers are welcome; guides supervise every launch and landing.

  • Closed-toe shoes: there are stairs between platforms, so wear snug sneakers or water shoes.

65-Foot Rappel in the Heart of the Jungle

The adrenaline keeps going with a rappel of about 65 ft (20 m) at the adventure park. Before you start, the guides gear you up and explain the technique step by step. They control the rope the entire time, so no experience is needed: just lean back, go at your own pace and enjoy the view over the jungle.

  • Safety first: you’ll rappel with a PETZL harness and helmet, with a guide controlling the rope at all times.

  • Beginner-friendly: a guided, step-by-step activity designed for people who have never rappelled before.

Underground Cenote: Swim Among Stalactites

After all that time in the air, it’s time to cool off. You’ll head down into an enclosed cenote, a lit freshwater cave where you can swim and snorkel among stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations that took thousands of years to form. The water is crystal-clear and refreshing year-round, and it’s one of the highlights travelers mention most in their reviews.

  • Full-face mask included: we’ll lend you a full-face snorkel mask that covers your eyes, nose and mouth, so you can breathe normally without biting on a snorkel. Great if it’s your first time snorkeling. A life jacket is included too.

  • Sargassum-free: because it’s underground fresh water, the cenote isn’t affected by the seaweed (sargassum) that can reach the beaches.

Regional Lunch Buffet in the Jungle

To refuel, you’ll enjoy a buffet of regional Mexican food served under a traditional thatched-roof palapa, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, with agua fresca (fruit-flavored water) and purified water. The park has lockers, showers, changing rooms and restrooms, so you can freshen up before heading back to your hotel.
